The Bathroom Is The Coldest Room In The House Built To Be Warm

Share

You heat your living room to 23 degrees. You walk into your bathroom in January in bare feet. Floor is 15 degrees ice. Tiles on the wall are 13 degrees. Mirror is fogged, wet, you wipe it and it fogs again. Towel you left damp yesterday still damp, smells. You turn on that little electric blower for 10 minutes, it blows hot air at your face, your feet still freezing. You shower to get warm.

We heat the bathroom exactly where we should not. With hot air.

Hot air in a bathroom is useless. You need warm skin, warm floor, dry towels, a clear mirror, no mold in corners. Hot air gives you none of that. Hot air goes to the ceiling in 5 seconds, you stand under it naked at floor level where it is 16 degrees. It makes humidity worse, because warm air holds more water, then that water lands on every cold tile and creates mold.

There is a better way. We stopped heating bathroom air at all.

A Mirror That Never Fogs Is Not Magic. It Is Physics.

We put a mirror on the wall. It looks like a normal bathroom mirror, 60×90 cm, 600W, black glass edge. But it is a 45 degree warm infrared panel, IP65, you can splash it directly. When it is on it does not heat air. It shines invisible infrared light, like February sun through a window that warms your face even when air is minus 5. That light crosses air without loss and becomes heat only when it hits something solid.

It hits opposite tiles and tiles go from 13 degrees ice to 24 degrees warm to touch in 20 minutes. It hits the floor and floor goes from 15 degree ice to 26 degree warm barefoot in 25 minutes. It hits your skin when you step out of shower and you feel soft warmth in 60 seconds, like standing in sun, not like hot wind from a blower.

And it hits itself. The glass of the mirror is 45 degrees warm. Physics says water cannot condense on a surface that is warmer than air. Steam from your shower touches 45 degree glass and nothing happens. No fog. Ever. You shave, you do makeup, you see yourself clear while shower is still running. No wiping, no heating wire that leaves brown lines, no chemical.

Towels Dry From Inside, Not From Outside

Hang a wet towel one meter away from that mirror. With a radiator you try to dry it with 24 degree warm air. It takes 6 hours and still smells because inside of fiber stays wet. Infrared light penetrates 2 millimeters into fiber and heats water inside fiber directly. Like sun drying laundry outside. That towel is dry in 40 minutes. Completely dry. No smell. No radiator needed.

Leave the bathroom door open. That same mirror panel heats the hallway floor 3 meters away because light travels. In a small 6 sqm bathroom one mirror panel replaces radiator, towel dryer, mirror heater and electric blower at once.

Mold In Bathroom Is Not From Bad Ventilation. It Is From Cold Tiles.

Every bathroom has black dots in corners, around window, on ceiling above shower. You bleach it, it comes back in 2 weeks.

It is not because you do not ventilate. It is because tiles are 13 degrees cold. You shower, you make 28 degree humid air. That humid air touches 13 degree tile and drops water, like cold beer bottle sweating in summer. Tile is wet 24 hours a day. Grout is wet, silicone is wet. Mold lives on that wet film.

A ceiling infrared panel in bathroom, or that mirror panel, shines directly on those cold tiles and keeps them at 23 degrees. Now 28 degree humid air touches 23 degree tile and nothing happens. No water, no wet film, no condition for mold. Physically impossible to condense on warmer surface. In 90 percent of bathrooms black mold dries out and falls off by itself in 3 weeks, without bleach. No chemicals, just warm walls.

And because there is no air movement, there is no dust burning smell. No draft when you step out wet. Humidity stays at healthy 50 percent after shower, not 90 percent, because warm walls do not hold water.

One Button, Zero Maintenance

One mirror panel, 600W for 6 sqm bathroom, or one white ceiling panel 500W. One WiFi thermostat with sensor you put on wall where you actually stand, not on hot radiator. One app.

Morning program 22 degrees from 6:00 to 8:00 only. Evening 23 from 19:00 to 22:00 only. Rest of day 16 anti mold for 6 cents a day. Weekend house on coast has no water inside, nothing can freeze and burst, leave at minus 15 for 3 months completely off. One hour before arrival tap ON on phone, arrive to 26 degree warm floor barefoot and mirror that is already clear.

It pulses 15 minutes on, 45 minutes off because warm tiles keep radiating when off. Effective 1.2 kWh per day, 0.30 euro per day, whole winter about 55 euros for bathroom. No boiler service, no towel dryer that uses 300W for 4 hours, no blower that uses 2000W and still leaves feet cold.

Available as mirror that never fogs, white glass, black glass, or ceiling panel. 25 year warranty, IP65, silent, maintenance free.

The bathroom is not a room to heat air in. It is a room to heat skin, floor, towels and mirror. Once you heat those, air becomes warm by itself in 3 minutes.
